Automotive
High bond fail temperatures and good flam retard properties are the main requests for bondings in the automotive sector. Next to the request of a good bonding the coating may have the need of other properties like stiffening of the laminate or form keeping after the moulding process.
In case of compiled carpet-parts for a car, the carpet material is scatter coated with LDPE-powder by an applied coating weight of 300 – 400 g/m2 and afterwards covered by a non woven. This laminate will be cut and moulded later.
For rear shelfs either LDPE or HDPE-powder is applied, following the requested bond fail temperature of the part.
In other application areas various adhesive powders are used. In most cases the hot-melt powder is chosen or optimised together with the car part manufacturer.
